Resident Evil Requiem Writer Hints at Upcoming Story DLC for Oswell E. Spencer
Fans of Resident Evil Requiem may soon be getting a deeper look at the game's controversial version of Oswell E. Spencer.

Fans of Resident Evil Requiem may soon be getting a deeper look at the game’s controversial version of Oswell E. Spencer. During a recent interview at Meadowlark Comic Con, screenwriter Haris Orkin confirmed he is currently working on DLC for the hit horror title, though he seemed to realize mid-sentence that he might be sharing information ahead of an official announcement.
Fleshing out the Mastermind
In Resident Evil Requiem, the portrayal of Spencer took a sharp turn from the maniacal puppet master long-time fans remember, casting him instead as a remorseful, redemptive figure. According to Orkin, the upcoming content aims to explain that shift in characterization even further. “We have an arc for Spencer in Requiem,” Orkin said. “Where you understand [that approach] more. And then in the DLC you will understand it even further. I probably shouldn’t say that, but yeah.”
This follows previous teases from director Koshi Nakanishi, who confirmed in March that a major story expansion was in the works. While Capcom has remained relatively quiet on the specifics, Orkin’s comments serve as the strongest indicator yet that this expansion will focus on expanding the lore surrounding one of the franchise’s most infamous antagonists.
Character depth and creative process
Beyond the DLC, Orkin also discussed his writing process, specifically regarding the character of Grace, an FBI analyst introduced in the base game. He noted that he wrote Grace to be on the spectrum, focusing on her analytical prowess while highlighting the challenges she faces in social interactions. This attention to character detail aligns with the critical acclaim the game received upon release, where it currently holds an 89 Metascore.
Why it matters
For players, this DLC represents a significant narrative expansion for a game that has already seen massive success, having sold over 7 million copies as of April this year. The focus on Oswell E. Spencer suggests that Capcom is willing to take risks with established franchise history, potentially polarizing or delighting veteran fans who are still dissecting the game’s story.
Those currently working through their initial playthroughs or grinding for completionist goals in Requiem should keep an eye on Capcom’s official channels for a formal release window. As the game remains a major pillar for the studio, any story-heavy expansion is likely to include significant new environments or challenges, giving players another reason to return to the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center and beyond.
