Seven titles are launching across Xbox platforms between August 31 and September 4, ranging from sports sims and fighting games to action-RPGs and horror. The lineup includes releases across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Game Pass, with several available for pre-order now.

What’s Coming to Xbox This Week

Young Suns hits Game Pass on August 31 as a 1-4 player narrative life sim set on Jupiter, designed for one-to-two hours of daily play whether solo or with friends. The game supports Smart Delivery and Xbox Play Anywhere, and is handheld optimized.

Shelldiver arrives September 1 on Game Pass. This incremental game stars a senior turtle protagonist who fishes jellyfish and sells them at a shop, with progression built around upgrading equipment, exploring oceanic biomes, and helping the local turtle population.

The Blood of Dawnwalker releases September 2 as a $69.99 pre-order optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Set in 14th-century Europe amid the Black Death and bloody conflicts, players control Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker who walks the line between day and night. The narrative centers on whether to fight for your humanity or embrace cursed powers to save your family.

Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault launches September 2 on Game Pass in its 1.0 release. This action-RPG with roguelike elements follows a shopkeeper and townspeople stranded in the village of Tresna, tasking players with building a humble shop into a community hub through dungeon exploration, relic gathering, and reinvestment in locals’ establishments.

September 3 brings three major releases: Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game (available now, Xbox Play Anywhere), NBA 2K27 ($69.99 pre-order, Series X|S optimized), and Onimusha: Way of the Sword ($69.99 pre-order, Series X|S and Xbox Play Anywhere). Avatar Legends features 12 playable characters, hand-drawn 2D animation, and modes including Story, Arcade, Training, and Online Versus. NBA 2K27 includes MyCAREER, MyTEAM, and MyNBA modes, with pre-orders receiving 10,000 Virtual Currency. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a new series entry set in Edo-period Kyoto, featuring a samurai wielding the Oni Gauntlet against Genma creatures across blood-soaked battlefields.

September 4 closes the window with two early-access titles: NHL 27 Deluxe Edition ($89.99, down from $99.99) and Halloween Digital Deluxe ($59.99). NHL 27 emphasizes authentic arena atmospheres across all 32 NHL teams with real goal songs and revamped crowd systems. Halloween is an asymmetrical horror sandbox set on Halloween night 1978 in Haddonfield, letting players control Michael Myers or defend as Heroes of Haddonfield.

Why This Week Matters

The slate represents a typical Xbox release cadence mixing major annual franchises, indie experiments, and established IP revivals. NBA 2K27 and NHL 27 anchor the week as predictable yearly releases, while Onimusha’s return signals Capcom’s continued appetite for reviving dormant action franchises. Avatar Legends arrives as a licensed fighting game tied to established IP, a category with mixed track records but strong fan enthusiasm. Game Pass continues receiving day-one coverage through titles like Young Suns and Moonlighter 2, maintaining the service’s appeal for subscribers seeking variety.

What to Watch

Players should keep an eye on early reception for Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Avatar Legends, both launching the same day into competitive genres. The Dawnwalker’s 14th-century setting will reveal whether the vampire-action premise resonates with audiences seeking historical-fantasy narratives.
