CD Projekt Red has released a significant update for The Witcher 3 Remastered, addressing a wide array of technical issues and adding new visual customization options for console players. Patch 5.01 is now available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X, aiming to stabilize the experience following the recent influx of players returning to the refreshed RPG.
New visual controls and gameplay fixes
The patch introduces several requested graphics settings, including the ability to toggle Bloom, Light Shafts, and Depth of Field. These additions give console users more control over the game’s aesthetic, which had faced some criticism for being overly bright following the initial remaster launch. Performance improvements and fixes for incorrect frame-rate limits on the base PS5 have also been implemented, alongside a resolution to the issue where settings would reset upon game launch.
Beyond visuals, the update tackles various gameplay irritants. Geralt’s stamina, which previously depleted incorrectly during sprinting and dodging, has been corrected, and annoying bugs—such as Vesemir repeating lines during Quen casts or unresponsive boat controls—have been resolved. On the PC side, the developers addressed rare but bizarre issues, such as the game selecting the incorrect GPU for rendering or failing to apply graphics settings correctly.
Switch 2 updates on the horizon
While the current patch focuses on the primary platforms, CD Projekt Red has confirmed that work is underway for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of the title. This specific update aims to improve image clarity and sharpness, moving toward parity with other versions of the game. The studio plans to share more details regarding this release in the coming days.
Why it matters
For players, this patch is a direct response to feedback regarding the stability and visual fidelity of the Remastered edition. By introducing granular toggles for lighting effects, CD Projekt Red is offering users more agency over the game’s presentation, ensuring the experience is more accessible to individual preferences.
Additionally, the patch includes Ukrainian text localization for all regions. With the ambitious expansion *Songs of the Past*—the game’s first new content in years—set for next year, these updates ensure the core game remains polished for both returning fans and new players diving into the Continent.
Players should note that due to backend adjustments, the policy consent screen may reappear upon launching the game, requiring a one-time confirmation of preferences.
