Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that Control Resonant has gone gold, completing its main development cycle over a month ahead of the game’s September 24 launch across all platforms. The studio will use the remaining time before release for optimization and bug fixes to ensure a smooth launch.
Development Complete, Release on Track
Remedy announced on August 18 that Control Resonant had reached gold status, meaning the game is now playable from start to finish without major issues. The digital release will arrive September 24, with physical copies following later on October 15 to ensure adequate inventory for PS5 and Xbox Series X players.
Control Resonant is a direct sequel to 2019’s Control and shifts the series into action RPG territory. Rather than the third-person shooter gameplay of the original, the sequel focuses on combat that rewards both careful dodging and hard-hitting combos. Players take on the role of Dylan Faden, sent by the Federal Bureau of Control to hunt down a powerful entity that has escaped the Bureau in a twisted version of downtown Manhattan. The game runs on Remedy’s proprietary Northlight Engine.
Pre-orders are now available for both physical and digital editions. The standard digital edition costs $59.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition adds $10 and includes additional cosmetics, a digital art book, and soundtrack. Physical copies will come in standard and collectible Steelbook editions on Ultra HD Blu-ray for PS5 and Xbox Series X.
PS5 players receive exclusive perks: pre-orders of the Digital Deluxe Edition grant 48 hours of early access, and all PS5 pre-orders include the Occult Outfit. Across all platforms, digital pre-orders include the Hiss Corruption Outfit and Pickpocket’s Tool Artifact.
Why It Matters
Control built a dedicated fanbase with its blend of third-person combat, supernatural storytelling, and striking art direction. The series’ shift to action RPG mechanics represents a meaningful evolution for the franchise, suggesting Remedy is expanding the scope and depth of character progression and exploration. Early gameplay showings have generated positive reception for the combat design, indicating the studio may have successfully adapted the Control formula for a different gameplay structure.
The gold status announcement arriving with ample time before launch signals confidence from Remedy—a studio known for polished, ambitious titles. The split release between digital and physical versions is becoming increasingly common as publishers manage supply chains, but the three-week gap here reflects deliberate planning rather than unexpected constraints.
Control Resonant enters a competitive September landscape alongside Marvel’s Wolverine, The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, placing significant weight on player interest and word-of-mouth momentum in the weeks following launch.
What’s Next
As September 24 approaches, attention will turn to early player reception and how the action RPG reimagining resonates with the Control audience. The period between digital and physical launch on October 15 will provide early sales data and community feedback that could shape how Remedy approaches post-launch support.
