League of Legends Classic is live, and Riot is throwing players back into a familiar but fiercer jungle. The mode launched on July 29, 2026 with patch 26.15 and recreates League as it played around Season 3, and its jungle is noticeably deadlier than many veterans remember. Riot’s teaser leans on survival rather than farming, and the confirmed changes back that up.

What League of Legends Classic is

Classic is Riot’s throwback experience, letting players play the game roughly as it was between 2009 and 2013. It launched with 60 champions: the original 40 champions plus 20 more released during that period. It uses classic items from the era along with the old runes and masteries systems, with some quality-of-life changes; for example, all runes start at Tier 3 so nobody has to grind them again.

Summoner’s Rift has been redesigned with improved visuals, but the layout and systems are built to feel like the older game rather than modern League.

What makes the jungle different

The jungle is where Classic separates itself most clearly. Camps are smaller and include wraiths and jungle buffs set up like earlier versions of the game. Camps also hit harder and respawn faster than in modern League, which means a jungler who clears carelessly can lose a large share of health early and become an easy target.

That shifts priorities. Positioning, pathing and knowing when to back matter more than squeezing out maximum gold per minute. The jungle always separated good teams from bad ones, and this version leans into that challenge even more. Players used to modern jungle items, companions and smoother clears may find the early game harsher than expected.

How to play

League of Legends Classic is free and runs inside the standard League of Legends client on PC. There is no separate download or subscription; players select it from the regular queue options alongside the standard modes. Riot has not announced an end date, and the mode is presented as ongoing, with seasonal passes.

Players returning after years away should start with champions they know from that era, learn the older jungle paths, and expect ganks to decide more games than late-game scaling does. New players can treat it as a history lesson: many champions have since been reworked, so their Classic kits may look very different from the versions in today’s game.

Why it matters

Classic gives lapsed players a reason to come back and newer players a way to see how League used to work. Its tougher jungle makes it more than a nostalgia trip, because it rewards careful decision-making over habits built in modern League.

For the large League community in the Middle East, including players on the region’s own servers, Classic is an easy, free mode to try with friends who stopped playing years ago.
