If you’ve been struggling to keep up with the vampire-fueled chaos of The Blood of Dawnwalker, the developers have some relief on the way. Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz confirmed in a recent interview that the game’s first major update, arriving in early October, is set to introduce a new, combat-free difficulty mode designed for those who want to experience the narrative without the stress of fighting.
A New Way to Experience the Story
Currently, the game features four difficulty settings: Story, Fair, Challenging, and Duelist. However, players have noted that the existing “Story” mode still forces you into combat encounters. The upcoming patch will address this by renaming the current entry-level setting and introducing a dedicated “Story” mode that removes fighting entirely. While the specifics of how the game handles boss encounters or guard checkpoints in this mode remain to be seen, it’s a massive quality-of-life shift for players focused strictly on the role-playing elements.
Combat Tweaks and Escaping Encounters
Beyond the new difficulty, the update aims to fix some of the frustration surrounding the game’s combat mechanics. Tomaszkiewicz noted that the team is overhauling targeting logic, particularly for stunned enemies. Currently, the game automatically shifts targets after an enemy is stunned, which can break your focus during intense brawls. The patch will allow players to stay locked onto a stunned target, and it will take three hits before that stun status is broken, giving players more agency over how they dismantle mobs.
Perhaps most importantly, the developers are working on changes to how players disengage from fights. Running away and escaping combat is being refined, which should help stop players from getting pinned down or snagged on environmental geometry during messy encounters.
While this patch covers several requested fixes, fans of the vampire sim might have even more to look forward to in the future. Tomaszkiewicz hinted that a New Game Plus mode is a possibility, though he stopped short of making any official promises. For now, we can expect these foundational improvements to hit Vale Sangora sometime in early October.
