The cryptocurrency project tied to a series of alleged Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks has crashed, providing a massive win for fans who spent the last week warning others against the scheme. As reported by IGN, the Cyberleek memecoin dropped from a peak market cap of $7.8 million on October 11 to just $1.7 million, effectively stalling the anonymous leaker’s attempt to extort money from the community.
The mechanics of the scam
The individual or group behind the Cyberleek account had been gatekeeping alleged GTA 6 gameplay footage behind specific market cap targets ranging from $5 million to $25 million. The leaker famously claimed they would release a 200 GB build of the game if the token hit a $30 million market cap. According to IGN, the leaker has been releasing clips throughout the week—including controversial footage of characters Lucia and Jason—to manipulate the token’s value. Fans and observers have widely dismissed the operation as a blatant financial scam, noting that the leaker allegedly cashed out approximately $270,000 back in August.
Why it matters
For the gaming community, the crash is a massive relief. Beyond the financial impact on those who fell for the scheme, the primary concern has been the unauthorized dissemination of game footage. Rockstar Games previously described these leaks as “heartbreaking” for their developers. While fans are celebrating the downfall of the coin, the underlying threat remains: it is unclear if the leaker truly possesses a playable build of GTA 6 or if they are simply using the promise of one to fuel their crypto project.
Take-Two Interactive has already initiated legal action and issued subpoenas to entities like Discord to identify those responsible. As it stands, the leaker remains at large, and it is uncertain whether they will continue to dump footage out of spite now that their financial engine has stalled. With GTA 6 officially launching on November 19, the community is closely watching to see if any further, more damaging leaks emerge before the game’s release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
