In a direct address to the player community, Mod Ryan has announced that the previously revealed project, RuneScape Reignited, has been officially cancelled. According to an update from the development team, the decision follows an extensive review of player feedback gathered since the project’s announcement at RuneFest. Mod Ryan emphasized that the team aims to avoid the mistakes of the past, specifically referencing historical combat changes that impacted the game for over a decade, and cited the importance of prioritizing the existing community over splitting the player base.
Refocusing on the 2027 Roadmap
While the Reignited project is off the table, the team is pivoting its focus toward the upcoming 2027 roadmap. Developers describe this as one of their most robust plans to date, featuring a focus on combat and skilling updates, the conclusion of decade-old storylines, and a major rework of the Agility skill. The team maintains that this roadmap was developed with the core community in mind, aiming to continue the “Road to Restoration” initiative and deliver significant content throughout the next year.
New Player Initiatives and Membership Trials
Despite the cancellation, the team remains committed to growing the player base. On December 2nd, the game will introduce the Adventure Guide and the first phase of the “Remastered Journey,” which includes various quality-of-life improvements. To encourage both new and returning players to explore these updates, Jagex is launching a 10-day free membership trial running from December 2nd through December 12th. Eligibility for the trial is limited to new characters and players who have not held an active membership since June 2, 2026. This promotion applies exclusively to RuneScape, with Old School RuneScape worlds excluded.
Why it matters
For the average player, this cancellation signifies a commitment from the developers to listen to community consensus rather than forcing through major infrastructure changes that might divide the player base. By pivoting away from the separate Reignited experience, the studio is choosing to invest resources directly into the core live game instead.
Players should look forward to the upcoming December 2nd update as a primary entry point for new or returning content. If you have been away from the game for a significant amount of time, the 10-day trial offers a window to test current member content without a financial commitment. Finally, the team has confirmed that updates regarding in-game plugins are scheduled for release on Monday, October 19th.
