Phantom Blade Zero launches on October 29, 2026, and PlayStation’s dedicated State of Play on August 17 gave the deepest look yet at what makes the action game tick. The episode covered combat systems, the Wulin world setting, and the involvement of martial arts star Donnie Yen, details the developer S-GAME had kept close until then.

Release date, platforms and price

The game releases on October 29 on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, arriving on October 28 in the US and some other regions because of time zones. The Standard Edition costs $59.99 and the Deluxe Edition $69.99. Pre-orders include an early accessory and costume for the Standard Edition, while the Deluxe Edition adds two exclusive outfits, a digital artbook and a digital soundtrack.

Combat systems

Players control Soul, and the State of Play focused on flexibility. There are more than 30 main weapons and 25 secondary weapons called Phantom Edges. Weapons can be upgraded and reforged, and paired with accessories to build different styles. Summons can join fights, ranged options add variety, and defeating certain enemies expands the arsenal further.

Three difficulty modes are available. Wayfarer is designed for players focused on the story. Hellwalker brings more advanced enemy behavior. Sixty-Six Days is the hardest option, aimed at players who want the full challenge.

Donnie Yen’s role

Donnie Yen has been a creative consultant on Phantom Blade Zero since 2023. He also provided motion and facial capture for the character Mo Yuan. According to PlayStation, his creative guidance is meant to bring the essence of kung fu cinema into players’ hands, which goes beyond a typical celebrity cameo.

The Wulin setting

The Wulin is a dark wuxia world rooted in Chinese martial arts fiction. Side quests do more than add extra tasks: completing them can unlock different story paths, so how players explore the world affects the narrative.

With the October 29 date locked, this State of Play served as the final major information push before launch. Holding back the deeper systems until now, after earlier trailers established the style, gives players a clearer idea of the game’s depth.

Why it matters

For action game players tracking this release, the State of Play answered the key questions: how many weapons there are, how builds work and how hard the game can get. The three difficulty modes should make it approachable for newcomers while still offering a serious test for veterans.

At $59.99, Phantom Blade Zero is also cheaper than many big releases this fall, which makes it one of the more affordable major action games of the season.
