If you were worried that the announcement of Diablo 5 at BlizzCon 2026 meant the clock was ticking on Diablo 4, Blizzard wants you to take a deep breath. Diablo 4 director Brent Gibson recently addressed concerns regarding the game’s future, promising that the “train isn’t stopping” even after the next mainline entry in the franchise launches.
Why Diablo 4 Isn’t Going Anywhere
In an interview with Icy Veins, Gibson emphasized that Blizzard views the franchise as a living universe rather than just a series of isolated titles. “We are going to be making content for a long time,” Gibson said, noting that the development team plans to support Diablo 4’s seasons as long as the community remains active. He pointed to the continued support for older titles like Diablo 2 and 3 as proof of the studio’s commitment to legacy games.
Blizzard is already looking ahead, confirming that the fan-favorite Amazon class will arrive in Diablo 4 during the first half of 2027. This aligns with a broader strategy where Blizzard aims to move away from the decade-long waits that previously characterized the series.
Dedicated Teams for a Unified Universe
To balance the development of both titles, production director Tiffany Wat clarified that Blizzard employs dedicated, distinct teams for each game. While these teams are separate, they collaborate closely to serve the broader Diablo community.
Diablo 5 director Joe Shely echoed these sentiments during a BlizzCon panel, reiterating that Diablo 4 remains a high priority. In addition to the upcoming Amazon class and new seasonal content like ‘Season of Hell’s Legacy,’ the studio confirmed that Diablo 4 is also headed to the Switch 2, ensuring that there will be plenty of reasons to stay in Sanctuary for years to come.
