To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Tomb Raider, developers Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, along with publisher Amazon Game Studios, have debuted a new trailer for the upcoming remake, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. As reported by Polygon, the footage was unveiled at the TR30 Derby and MCM London, providing a fresh look at the game’s high-fidelity reimagining of classic environments.

Iconic Locations Reimagined

The trailer showcases the four core regions of the original game: Peru, Greece, Egypt, and Atlantis. Players can expect to see modernized versions of legendary moments, such as the giant Atlas puzzle, encounters with Atlantean monsters, and the infamous transformation that occurs when touching the hand of King Midas’ statue. While the setting is familiar, the developers are integrating modern visual fidelity to bring these cursed locales to life.

Modern Mechanics Meet Classic Style

Despite the nostalgic atmosphere, Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog are not building a direct one-to-one recreation. According to the reporting from Polygon, the remake introduces gameplay systems like skill trees, crafting, and a “Focus” meter. Game director Raul Siquera explained that the Focus meter builds as players deal damage and dodge attacks, eventually allowing them to slow down time to execute Lara’s signature 1996-era acrobatic maneuvers.

Why it matters

For fans, the release date is officially set for February 12, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Pre-ordering the game grants access to a costume based on the Survivor trilogy look for those who prefer that aesthetic over the classic shorts and tank top. Enthusiasts looking for a head start can pick up the deluxe or collector’s editions, which include 48-hour early access.

Following this release, the series is set to continue in 2027 with an entirely new adventure, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which will take Lara on a journey through Northern India to uncover ancient secrets in the wake of a mythical cataclysm.
