Marvel’s Wolverine launches September 15, and while Insomniac has confirmed several suits for the game, fans are already eyeing five iconic costumes that haven’t made the cut yet. From Old Man Logan’s weathered denim to the symbiote-infected monstrosity from a 2008 Spider-Man game, these are the deep cuts that could give players fresh ways to experience Logan.
The Costumes Fans Want to See
Old Man Logan, which debuted in Wolverine #66 in 2008 and was created by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, shows a grizzled version of the character living quietly in a dystopian future. The suit—a worn coat, jeans, boots, and cowboy hat—differs drastically from Logan’s traditional superhero look, offering a chance to display an older, battle-weary side of the character.
The X-Force Suit arrived with the team’s 2008 relaunch in X-Force #1, crafted by writers Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost with art by Clayton Crain. Logan’s black and gray armor was designed for covert operations, presenting a far more militaristic aesthetic than the bright X-Men uniforms. The muted colors and red lenses complement a combat-focused tone without retreading his standard costume.
The black leather X-Men suit worn by Hugh Jackman in 2000’s X-Men film introduced the character to an entire generation before he ever wore yellow on screen. Though basic by modern standards, it carries nostalgic weight as a defining look from Wolverine’s early live-action history.
The Ablation Armor surfaced in Wolverine Vol. 6 #1 in 2014, designed by Kris Anka during a period when Logan lost his healing factor. Superior Spider-Man created this bulky black-and-yellow suit with retractable artificial claws to keep him alive when his powers no longer could. The oversized X across the chest and mechanical gauntlets represent a unique chapter when technology, not biology, was Logan’s survival tool.
Symbiote Wolverine, pulled from Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, shows Logan infected by the Venom symbiote. This hulking black and yellow form features pointed ears, oversized claws, and exposed teeth—a feral design that emerged from a 2008 video game developed by Shaba Games and published by Activision.
Why These Suits Matter
Wolverine has worn enough iconic gear across decades of comics, films, and games to fill multiple titles. Each suit represents a different era or storyline, giving Insomniac opportunities to celebrate different facets of the character’s history. The Old Man Logan and Ablation Armor designs especially appeal because they show Logan at vulnerable moments—aging without answers, or fighting without his natural defenses—rather than at peak power. The X-Force and symbiote suits tap into darker, more militaristic aesthetics that align with modern game design.
Since Marvel’s Wolverine shares a universe with Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, the symbiote suit carries extra appeal: it’s a shared piece of video game history that could bridge both franchises.
What’s Next
With the game’s September 15 launch date locked in, players will soon see which suits made Insomniac’s final roster. Whether these five fan favorites appear at launch or arrive as post-release cosmetics remains to be seen.
