The horror game landscape is seeing a major leadership shift as Tymon Smektala, the former franchise director for the Dying Light series, has officially joined Bloober Team. Smektala is stepping into the role of executive director for Broken Mirror Games, the publisher’s co-development horror imprint.
A New Chapter for Techland’s Veteran
Smektala spent 13 years at Techland, where he spent his final four years overseeing the studio’s major franchises, including the survival horror hit Dying Light. His departure follows the recent release of Dying Light: The Beast in 2025. In a statement on LinkedIn, Smektala expressed his excitement for the new challenge, noting that he will be responsible for shaping the creative direction and portfolio of the imprint while collaborating with external studios.
Expanding the Broken Mirror Portfolio
Broken Mirror Games was established in 2024 as a specialized label under Bloober Team to foster new projects. Under his new leadership, Smektala will immediately dive into existing production pipelines, specifically focusing on the upcoming titles Saw: Genesis and Onyx: The Dark Grip.
Beyond these active projects, Smektala is actively looking to expand the imprint’s reach. He has put out an open call for independent developers and creators, stating, “If you’re a developer, studio, or creator working on something interesting in horror, give me a shout!” This move signals Bloober Team’s intent to aggressively grow its horror offerings, building on a history that includes titles like the Silent Hill 2 remake, Layers of Fear, and Blair Witch.
