Starting December 5, Epic Games is significantly restructuring the Fortnite Crew subscription service. As reported by GamesRadar+, the update introduces a tiered V-Buck reward system based on the length of your continuous subscription, but notably removes the monthly exclusive skin drop.
New V-Buck reward tiers
The base V-Bucks per month for all Crew members will rise back to 1,000, reversing the decrease to 800 implemented earlier this year. Beyond that, long-term subscribers will now receive a loyalty bonus. Subscribers reaching three consecutive months will receive 1,200 V-Bucks monthly, increasing to 1,400 after six months, and capping at 1,600 V-Bucks per month once they hit the one-year mark.
According to Epic, current subscribers will be assigned a bronze, silver, or gold tier based on their activity over the past 12 months. Lapsed subscribers who sign back up between December 5 and 31 will also have their initial tier status calculated based on their most recent continuous subscription period within that same year-long window.
The loss of monthly skins
While the V-Bucks increase is a major shift, it comes at the expense of one of the service’s most popular features. Following the December update, Epic will no longer provide a new, exclusive monthly skin as part of the Crew subscription.
To soften the blow, players who currently own previous Crew skins will have all remaining Legacy Styles for those items—including back blings and pickaxes—automatically unlocked. This applies to both active and lapsed subscribers who already own the base cosmetic.
Why it matters
For current Fortnite players, this shift represents a move toward a “currency-first” value proposition rather than one driven by exclusivity. While those chasing rare skins may be disappointed by the end of the monthly outfit drops, the potential to earn up to 1,600 V-Bucks monthly without a price increase offers more flexibility to pick up items from the regular shop. Additionally, subscribers will now gain a 20% XP boost, with non-subscribers getting a 10% bonus when teamed up with a Crew member.
Existing perks remain largely intact: the Battle Pass, Music Pass, Lego Pass, and Rocket Pass Premium will still be included in the monthly cost. If you are a long-term subscriber, this change essentially provides more spending power for your ongoing investment, even if your cosmetic collection will no longer grow via the monthly subscription service.
