Gears of War: E-Day May Hide Xbox’s First Platinum Trophy System

Gears of War: E-Day includes an achievement that works like PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, and it may be the first sign of Xbox adopting a completion reward of its own. The achievement, called “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day,” awards zero Gamerscore and unlocks only when a player has earned every other achievement in the game. E-Day launches on October 6, 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

What the achievement list shows

Xbox published the full E-Day achievement list ahead of launch, with more than 50 achievements in total. The zero-Gamerscore completion achievement is unusual for Xbox, where achievements have traditionally always carried points. Its structure mirrors PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, which has rewarded players for earning every trophy in a game since trophies arrived on PS3 in 2008.

The list also includes some playful nods. One multiplayer achievement, “HEY NOW, YOU’RE AN ALL STAR…”, asks players to get 25,000 kills in Versus mode. The name references Smash Mouth’s “All Star,” the song made famous by the opening of the film Shrek. Other entries are long-term grinds, including large kill counts in Horde and Versus and progression caps tied to the game’s re-up system.

Release details

E-Day is a prequel set during Emergence Day, when the Locust Horde first attacked humanity, and it follows a younger Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago. It is developed by The Coalition with People Can Fly. The game launches on October 6, 2026, with early access from October 1 for players who buy a premium edition. It is available on Game Pass at launch for eligible subscribers.

What is not confirmed

Microsoft and The Coalition have not officially described the zero-point achievement as a new Xbox platform feature. It is not yet clear whether other Xbox games will adopt the same approach, whether Xbox will add a special icon or profile recognition for completion, or whether this is a one-off design choice for E-Day. Until Xbox says more, it should be treated as a promising signal rather than a confirmed system.

Why it matters

Achievement hunters have asked for a Platinum-style reward on Xbox for years. PlayStation’s Platinum became a status symbol that encourages players to finish games completely, and a similar marker on Xbox could change how players approach first-party and Game Pass titles, giving them a clear goal beyond Gamerscore totals.

For players planning to go for 100% in E-Day, it is worth knowing early that several multiplayer achievements require very large numbers of kills in Versus and Horde. That puts full completion well beyond the campaign and makes “The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day” a long-term goal rather than something most players will unlock quickly.
