If you picked up the newly launched RuneScape: Dragonwilds on Nintendo Switch 2, you’ve likely noticed that the console version isn’t exactly matching the quality of its PS5 and Xbox counterparts. While the game has generally seen a positive reception on other platforms following its 1.0 update, Switch 2 players have been quick to point out significant visual shortcomings.
Visuals Not Up to Standard
Since the game’s console debut last week, Switch 2 users have been sharing feedback regarding blurry image quality and rough lighting and shadow effects, particularly when played in TV mode. While the game has maintained a stable framerate—a win for a survival crafter of this scale—the overall aesthetic has left many disappointed.
Jagex officially addressed these concerns on Twitter this past Thursday. The developer admitted that the current state of the Switch 2 build is “not where we want it to be” and emphasized their commitment to long-term support for the platform.
The Path Toward Improvement
Don’t expect an overnight fix. Jagex confirmed that improvements to image clarity and general engine performance will be rolled out through a series of incremental patches over time. The team stressed that they are committed to ensuring the game performs well on handheld hardware, and they plan to push updates as soon as individual visual improvements are ready for deployment.
In addition to gameplay patches, Jagex is tackling the discrepancy between the game’s marketing and its current reality. The studio confirmed they have already sent new, more accurate screenshots to Nintendo to replace the current assets on the eShop store page, ensuring that future buyers have a better understanding of how the game looks on Switch 2 hardware.
For now, the team is asking for patience as they work to bring the Switch 2 version of Dragonwilds up to speed.
