After a 19-year run, Marvel is sunsetting its long-standing digital subscription service, Marvel Unlimited. The company announced that the app will officially go offline on December 17, 2026. In its place, Marvel is launching a new platform titled ‘Marvel Comics Powered by Webtoon,’ which is scheduled to go live on November 16, 2026.

The Transition Process

For current subscribers, the shift begins immediately. New subscriptions for the original Marvel Unlimited service are no longer available as of today. Existing users will retain free access to the legacy app until its final closure in December. According to information provided by Marvel, users who were recently billed will not face further charges before the shutdown. Furthermore, the company plans to issue prorated refunds on November 16 for any remaining value left on active subscriptions.

Marvel has confirmed that users will be able to migrate their existing libraries and reading progress to the new platform. While specific technical details on the transfer process are currently scarce, the company has advised subscribers to keep an eye on their email and in-app notifications for forthcoming instructions regarding the link between their accounts and the new Webtoon integration.

Tiered Pricing and New Features

Though the platform is changing, the core pricing structure remains familiar, albeit with a new ‘Ultimate’ option. The Base subscription remains $9.99 per month, mirroring the old Unlimited price, and provides access to the full library with new issues arriving 90 days after print. The new Ultimate tier, priced at $12.49 monthly, allows readers to access new issues just 30 days after they hit shelves. Additionally, Marvel is offering a promotional incentive for early adopters, allowing users to pre-order a year of the Ultimate tier for $59.99. Note that this introductory rate will renew at $99.99 after the first year.

Why it matters

This transition marks the end of an era for digital comic readers who have relied on the Marvel Unlimited interface for nearly two decades. For regular readers, the primary impact is the shift toward a potentially more modern interface, provided by the Webtoon infrastructure, and the opportunity to access new print releases two months faster than before via the Ultimate tier.

Players and comic fans should prioritize keeping their current login information secure and watching their registered email addresses for the specific migration steps. As the landscape for digital comics shifts toward the Webtoon model, users should weigh whether the faster release window of the Ultimate tier justifies the price increase after the first year, especially since the base service offering remains largely consistent with the previous iteration.
