If you were hoping for a major reveal on Naughty Dog’s next big project before the year is out, you’re going to have to keep waiting. Studio head Neil Druckmann confirmed in an official update that the team is going quiet for the remainder of 2026, stating that fans shouldn’t expect a full unveiling of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet until 2027.
A Long Road for Naughty Dog’s Latest Sci-Fi
Naughty Dog’s upcoming action-adventure, which was first teased at The Game Awards in 2022, remains a massive question mark for players. The studio has confirmed the game is set 2,000 years in the future in an alternate universe where space travel became common in the 1980s. Players will step into the boots of a bounty hunter named Jordan, who becomes stranded on an alien planet while tracking a criminal syndicate.
“The team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet,” Druckmann wrote. “There’s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we’re stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory. But…we need to cook for just a little bit longer.”
Hype vs. Reality
While the studio maintains radio silence, the anticipation hasn’t entirely cooled off. Actor Troy Baker, known for his iconic role as Joel in The Last of Us and his involvement in this project, recently told an audience that the game is set to “blow” their minds. “You are not ready,” Baker claimed, suggesting the studio is pushing its creative limits once again.
With Naughty Dog having gone essentially an entire console generation without a new original release, the pressure is undeniably high. Whether or not that patience pays off in 2027 remains to be seen, but for now, the studio is asking fans to sit tight as they work on a project they hope is worthy of the wait.
