Players in the Middle East are reporting that Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine has been edited in the region to remove references to the romantic relationship between Mystique and her wife, Tyger. Posts on social media and Reddit show wedding-day photos and letters referencing the couple that appear to be censored or missing in Middle Eastern copies of the game. Sony has not commented on the reports.

What players say was changed

Marvel’s Wolverine launched worldwide on September 15, 2026, exclusively on PlayStation 5, developed by Insomniac Games with Marvel Games. Within days, players in the region began comparing their version with footage from elsewhere.

A video posted to the r/PlayWolverine subreddit became the main point of discussion. The original poster said they first suspected a technical glitch, but as they progressed they noticed that dialogue referring to Mystique’s “wife” had been cut while the background audio kept playing, which points to a deliberate edit rather than a bug. Other users shared screenshots of altered in-game documents and wedding imagery, some of them posted in replies to the developer’s official social media accounts. Reports have focused on Middle Eastern versions, with at least one post referencing Lebanon.

So far, the reported changes are limited to these references. There is no indication that missions or gameplay have been removed, and the claims rest on player footage rather than an official list of changes.

A familiar pattern for regional releases

The reports match previous regional changes by Sony and Insomniac. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had Pride flags removed in several Middle Eastern markets, and a side mission that originally featured a young gay couple was altered.

Same-sex relationships are illegal in several Middle Eastern countries, and publishers regularly adjust content to meet local regulations, age-rating requirements and distribution standards. In practice, this usually means a single regional build is sold across a group of markets, which is why players in different countries in the region often see the same edits.

What we still don’t know

Neither Sony nor Insomniac has confirmed which changes were made, which countries receive the edited version, or whether the edits apply to both physical and digital copies. It is also unclear whether a player’s PlayStation Store region or the disc region determines which version is installed. Until Sony comments, the details come from player comparisons.

Why it matters

For players in the GCC, the story is mostly about knowing what version they are getting. Regional edits like this generally affect a small number of scenes, dialogue lines or props, not the core game, so the combat, main story and progression should be the same as elsewhere.

The bigger issue is transparency. When changes are discovered by players rather than disclosed by the publisher, it fuels confusion and speculation. A clear statement from Sony on which content differs by region would let players in the Middle East make informed buying decisions, as major PlayStation releases continue to launch in the region on the same day as the rest of the world.
