Xbox appears to be finally adding a PlayStation Platinum Trophy equivalent, according to a reported update spotted in the Xbox PC App. The new feature, called Xbox Mythic Achievement, features an ornate starred and laurelled symbol design and a 15-second unlock sound, as first reported by Xbox-watcher Klobrille.
According to TrueAchievements, Mythic Achievements are worth zero Gamerscore and appear to be retroactive. However, Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the feature yet, including whether it functions exactly like PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy—awarded after unlocking every other achievement in a game.
Xbox has been without a completion trophy for years
The move closes a notable gap in Xbox’s achievement system. PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy has been a status symbol for players since the PS3 era, giving completion-focused gamers a visible marker for 100%-ing a title. Xbox’s Gamerscore system, by contrast, has lacked an equivalent capstone reward, despite being around just as long.
Xbox leadership previously teased the feature was coming. Asha Sharma, Xbox’s leader, responded to a Twitter question about a Platinum equivalent by saying “Team is working on something for later this year!” in relation to a broader Achievement system overhaul Microsoft announced it was developing.
The “Mythic” name appears intentional. It references Halo’s top-tier difficulty setting and mirrors Blizzard’s naming convention for elite rewards and challenges across its game portfolio—a fitting choice given Microsoft’s 2023 acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion.
Timing raises questions amid Xbox restructuring
The Mythic Achievement reveal lands amid significant turbulence at Xbox. This week, Microsoft announced that Halo Studios is effectively closing, with Halo development transferring to Activision under a newly assembled team. The move sparked concern within the Halo community about the series’ future direction and institutional knowledge loss.
The Halo transition is part of a second wave of Xbox restructuring that eliminated 268 jobs total. Ninja Theory (Hellblade) is effectively closing after acquisition deals fell through; World’s Edge (Age of Empires) lost roughly half its staff; Obsidian moved under Bethesda; Playground and Turn 10 (Forza and Fable) merged; and Rare moved under Activision.
Microsoft has not yet responded to requests for official clarification on Mythic Achievements or their exact mechanics.
