Koei Tecmo just dropped an alpha demo for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, and it’s live on Steam right now through September 30th. The sequel to the studio’s soulslike action RPG is officially headed to March 4th, 2027.
This matters for fans of challenging action games: Wo Long 2 is shaping up as a Three Kingdoms-era adventure where you’re not just fighting historical warlords and legendary heroes—you’re dealing with demons and creatures pulled straight from Chinese mythology. Think samurai sword combat mixed with rolling, defensive martial arts, and open battlefields crawling with supernatural threats.
What the Demo Lets You Play
The alpha gives you a slice of the Changban stage, one of the major set-pieces from the Three Kingdoms period. Koei Tecmo notes in their PlayStation Blog post that you’ll get to “utilise Chinese martial arts that blend offense and defense, traverse the Three Kingdoms battlefield where demons run rampant, and engage in combat with legendary heroes from history.” You can also test out character creation and co-op multiplayer in this build.
Beat the Wuzhiqi boss during the demo and you’ll unlock a Fledgling Phoenix Helmet that carries over to the full release—a solid incentive to put in the work now. Fair warning: the demo requires 95 GB of storage space, so make sure you’ve got room before downloading.
Why This Timing Matters for PC Gamers
Demos like this have become crucial proof-of-concept moments in the soulslike space. You’re getting hands-on with the actual feel of combat, the mythology-heavy setting, and how Koei Tecmo’s interpretation of Chinese martial arts differs from the first game—all before committing to a March purchase. For players burned out on the usual fantasy medieval soulslike formula, the Three Kingdoms setting and demon-haunted battlefield angle is a meaningful refresh.
The demo window closes September 30th, so you’ve got roughly two weeks to download and test drive it. The full game hits PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms on March 4th, 2027.
