As anticipation builds for the continued expansion of Guild Wars 3, Aaron Linde of the development team has shared an in-depth look at Warden’s Watch, the game’s inaugural major player social hub. Located in the Tughra Basin, the settlement serves as a critical base of operations for the Vaelwardens, acting as a refuge for adventurers returning from the wilds to resupply, trade, and rest.

The Tragedy of Orr Thulon

According to an official update published on Steam, the existence of Warden’s Watch is tied to a dark chapter in Orrian history. The region was once overseen by a colossal aerial spirit known as Orr Thulon. In 205 BE, a catastrophic battle occurred over the Tughra Basin, resulting in the death of the great spirit. The aftermath left the surrounding land scarred and devoid of life, plagued by magical storms. In the wake of this disaster, the fledgling order of Vaelwardens established their foothold using an ancient, mysterious Forgotten tower as their foundation, effectively creating what is now known as Warden’s Watch.

Structure of the Watch

Development notes describe the settlement as a living history, with its architecture expanding in layers outward from the central Forgotten tower. The interior sections house the order’s facilities, including the headquarters for the guild envoy who coordinates with the High Council of Arah. Moving outward, the architecture reflects more recent construction, representing the long vigil maintained by various chapters of the order throughout the years.

Why it matters

For players, Warden’s Watch represents more than just a piece of world-building; it is a primary social space that defines the game’s community and narrative anchor. As the seat of operations for the Vaelwardens, it will likely serve as a central nexus for trading, quest coordination, and guild activity, making it a place every player will frequently visit.

With the fourth playable species slated for release in December, the development team is clearly focusing on filling out the game’s lore and environmental depth ahead of future content drops. Players should keep an eye on these lore reveals as they provide context for the political landscape and geographical challenges expected in the full launch of Guild Wars 3.
