The voice acting community and gaming world are mourning the loss of Eric Bauza, a prolific talent known for bringing iconic characters to life across animation and interactive media. As reported by Game Developer, Bauza passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 26. According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office, as cited by KTLA, his cause of death was hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

A Prolific Career

Bauza was arguably one of the most recognizable voices in the industry over the last two decades. While he served as the modern voice for legendary Looney Tunes characters including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Foghorn Leghorn, and Marvin the Martian, his footprint in gaming was equally massive. His resume included roles in major titles such as Batman: Arkham City, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, High on Life 2, and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

Beyond his formal credits, Bauza was known for his genuine engagement with the online community. He was frequently seen participating in internet memes featuring his characters, often recording voiceovers simply because he found the content entertaining. Most recently, he appeared in the film Coyote vs. ACME and provided character work for Avatar: Seven Havens.

A Legacy of Advocacy

As a prominent Filipino-American voice actor, Bauza’s impact reached far beyond the studio booth. Following the announcement by his family on Instagram, peers and collaborators shared tributes honoring both his professional skill and his advocacy. Ghost of Yotei star Erika Ishii paid respects on the family’s post, stating, “He was a good man, a literal voice for change, advocacy, and a pioneer in animation, not to mention the Asian American community.”

Why it matters

For gamers and animation fans, Bauza’s death marks the loss of a voice that defined the modern era for multiple generations of beloved characters. His extensive body of work in major video game franchises means that players worldwide will continue to hear his performances in the games they return to for years to come. The outpouring of support from industry colleagues highlights the significant role he played as a pioneer for representation within the Western voice acting industry.
