We Were Here Tomorrow is launching for Xbox Series X|S this October, bringing a new chapter to the cooperative puzzle series with a fresh setting and evolved asymmetric challenge design. The latest trailer reveals the game’s mysterious Norček Industries facility, where players will explore strange environments, solve mind-bending puzzles, and uncover secrets about a dangerous interdimensional rift at the heart of the corporation’s research.

A Rescue Gone Wrong

The story begins with you and your partner searching a frozen Antarctic landscape for lost expedition members. When something goes wrong, you both awaken in an unexpected place: Norček Industries, a retro-futuristic research facility. You’re met by Director Kathleen Bowe, a charismatic scientist-turned-manager who seems helpful at first glance. As you explore deeper, however, the question of whether Bowe is telling you the full story becomes increasingly difficult to answer. The facility is researching something with enormous consequences for the world—an interdimensional rift that becomes central to your adventure and pulls you into understanding its mysteries.

Puzzles Across Time and Space

The game showcases several distinct puzzle environments that build on the series’ communication-focused design while introducing new twists. The Greenhouse features time-separation mechanics where one player experiences the space in the past while another sees the future. Actions taken in one timeframe affect what the other player encounters, forcing careful description and cause-and-effect thinking beyond immediate surroundings. The Office of Tomorrow takes a different approach, presenting spaces where gravity and architecture don’t follow normal rules. Here, players navigate and experiment together in a shared space rather than always describing separate environments. The Optics Lab maintains the traditional We Were Here style—both players can see each other but occupy different spaces, needing to communicate clearly about laser refractions and sequences to solve the puzzle. Later, the area Beyond the Rift offers something entirely unfamiliar, representing a genuine step into the unknown.

Why It Matters

We Were Here built its reputation on asymmetric co-op puzzles that require genuine communication and trust between players—a design philosophy that remains rare and challenging to execute well. By expanding the formula to include time-separated challenges, gravity-defying spaces, and visibility without proximity, the sequel appears to be testing new ways to create meaningful cooperation moments. The series has always prioritized the human element of collaboration over mechanics alone, and Tomorrow seems to deepen that commitment by creating puzzles where seeing your partner doesn’t make solutions obvious. For co-op enthusiasts, this represents the kind of thoughtful evolution that respects what made the originals special while pushing into unfamiliar territory.

What’s Next

With the October launch window confirmed for Xbox Series X|S, players will soon experience whether these new puzzle designs deliver the tension and satisfaction that defined the We Were Here franchise. The mystery of Director Bowe, Norček Industries, and the interdimensional rift awaits discovery.
