Jinx
the Loose Cannon
The story
Where she comes from
Zaun. Which you cannot explain without explaining Piltover, because they are the same city cut in half.
Piltover sits in the light at the top: progress, science, trade, clean streets, a fair legal system for the people it considers people. Zaun is the undercity underneath, where the chemical runoff drains, where the air is toxic enough to shorten lives, and where the inventions Piltover found too dangerous get made anyway by people with nothing left to risk. Same brilliance, no safety rails, no oversight, and no way up.
Jinx is what that place produces when it stops trying to climb.
The story
She was a child called Powder, and something went very wrong. The version most people know now came through Arcane, which told it as the slow disintegration of a girl who lost her family, was raised by the wrong man, and was rebuilt around the belief that she was the thing that broke everything. Her sister Vi ended up on the other side of it, and eventually on the other side of the law, as an enforcer for Piltover.
What she became is not a supervillain with a plan. Jinx does not want territory or money or power. She blows things up, she leaves a calling card, and what she is really doing every single time is trying to make Piltover look down and Vi look back. The chaos is the message. There is nobody left she wants to talk to who will talk to her, so she talks in explosions.
The weapons have names because she named them. Pow-Pow the minigun, Fishbones the rocket launcher, Zap the shock pistol, Flame Chompers the grenades that bite. She talks to them. They are the only company she kept.
What she does in a game
Bot lane marksman with the widest swing between weak and unstoppable of anyone in the role. She switches between the minigun, which builds attack speed the longer she fires, and the rocket launcher, which trades attack speed for enormous range and splash damage.
She lays traps that root, fires a global rocket that gets stronger the further it travels, and her passive gives her a huge burst of movement speed whenever she gets a takedown, which lets one kill turn into three.
What it feels like
Playing Jinx early is uncomfortable. She is slow, she has no escape whatsoever, and any assassin who reaches her ends the interaction immediately. You are surviving, not winning.
Then the fight breaks and something dies and the speed boost hits, and you are moving faster than anyone can retreat, switching to rockets, hitting three people at once. That transition is the entire reason to play her, and it is genuinely one of the best feelings the game offers.
Who should pick her up
Players who can be patient for twenty minutes to be terrifying for ten. Jinx rewards discipline early and pays it back with interest.
Do not pick her if your team has no frontline. She has zero self-protection, and against a team with two divers she will spend the whole fight dead, holding the best damage in the lobby and no way to use it.
