Overview

Known story

What official material tells us about this character so far.

Where she comes from

Brazil. Raze arrives with more personality than almost anyone on the roster and none of the brooding that usually comes with a VALORANT backstory. She is loud, she is delighted to be here, and she blows things up.

That cheerfulness is doing real work. In a cast full of people processing something, Raze is the one who seems to be enjoying the job, and it makes her the most immediately likeable agent Riot has made.

What she actually is

Raze is the answer to a specific problem: what do you do about someone holding a corner you cannot see into.

Every other duelist solves that by being faster or harder to hit. Raze solves it by removing the corner. She is the only agent whose primary function is making a piece of the map temporarily uninhabitable, and on tight maps that reshapes how rounds are played rather than just how fights are won.

What she does in a game

Duelist. Her boom bot travels in a straight line, locks onto the first enemy in its cone, chases them, and detonates hard. Her blast packs are sticky charges she detonates on command. Her paint shells are a cluster grenade that splits into smaller charges.

Her ultimate is a rocket launcher with a single shot and enormous area damage.

The blast pack is the ability that matters, and not for the reason it looks like.

What it feels like

Here is the thing most people miss about Raze. Her satchels launch anything caught in the blast, including her, and that turns a damage tool into a movement system.

A beginner throws satchels at enemies. A good Raze throws them at the floor and arrives somewhere nobody has an angle on. That skill gap is one of the widest in the game, and it is why Raze play is read as a mobility ceiling rather than a damage one. The best Raze players in the world are barely using her explosives to kill anybody.

Playing against her is about spacing and sound. Her utility announces itself, and the counter is refusing to stand in enclosed space when you can hear a bot coming. Long sightlines are her weakness in a way they are not for any other duelist, because a rocket you can see coming from forty metres is a rocket you can walk away from.

Who should pick her up

Players on tight maps who keep losing to angles they cannot clear. Raze converts a problem you cannot aim your way out of into one you can solve with utility, which is a genuinely useful thing to have on a team.

She is also a commitment. Learning to satchel-jump takes real practice time in a custom game, and a Raze who cannot do it is a duelist with a smaller kit than everyone thinks she has. If you are not going to put that time in, you are picking the character for the fantasy rather than the function.
