The Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Original Soundtrack is now available on streaming and digital platforms, arriving ahead of the game’s August 27 launch. Composer Olivier Derivière, known for his work on A Plague Tale: Innocence & Requiem, South of Midnight, Dying Light 2, and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag – Freedom Cry, has crafted an emotional and mythically-rooted score for the prequel’s story of Sophia’s journey to the Minotaur’s Island.

What’s in the Score

The soundtrack has been released on multiple platforms including Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and Bandcamp, published by AMEO Prod in partnership with Focus Entertainment. Derivière assembled a globally diverse ensemble of native musicians to record the score, drawing talent from Cyprus, Greece, and other international musicians.

The recording features The Amalgamation Choir, a Cypriot-Greek ensemble of 20 female vocalists led by Vasiliki Anastasiou, alongside soloists Anastasiou and Giorgos Kalogirou. The instrumental palette includes Yaılı tambur and rebab (bowed string instruments) performed by Evgenios Voulgaris, carnyx by Samuel Meric, bouzouki and guitar by Giani Caserotto, and cello by Eric-Maria Couturier, Derivière’s long-time collaborator on the previous A Plague Tale games.

Derivière described the composition process as a balance between intimate narrative and mystical atmosphere. “The entire soundtrack is a musical journey, moving between an intimate human story and a mystical enigma,” he explained. “The structure of the OST mirrors the structure of the game and, I believe, can also be experienced as a complete journey on its own.”

Why the Score Matters

Derivière’s track record speaks for itself—his work has earned recognition from Billboard, Classic FM, MTV, and The New York Times. The A Plague Tale franchise is known for blending historical atmosphere with supernatural horror, and the composer’s approach to Resonance fits that identity by grounding the score in real cultural instruments and traditions while exploring mythological themes.

Using native Cypriot and Greek musicians for a game centered on ancient Mediterranean mythology and the Minotaur’s Island isn’t just sonic window-dressing; it gives the score authenticity and cultural weight. Derivière’s previous work on the series established the emotional core that made A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem resonate with players, so his return suggests Resonance will maintain that narrative-music connection.

The fact that the soundtrack works as a standalone listening experience while mirroring the game’s structure is worth noting for soundtrack fans and gamers who appreciate how music shapes a game’s identity. Derivière clearly approaches this prequel as a complete artistic statement, not just background audio.

What to Watch

With the soundtrack now in players’ hands, all that’s left is to hear how it integrates with Sophia’s story when the game launches on August 27. The early release gives fans weeks to sit with the score before experiencing it in context—a chance to let Derivière’s vision settle before seeing how it moves players during gameplay.
