The beta for World of Warcraft Forever is proving to be a massive success for Blizzard, with players creating over 1 million characters since the testing period kicked off last month. As reported by IGN, community data tracker classicplus.io confirms that the total character count has reached 1,003,125. This milestone is particularly notable given that the beta currently requires access via the $30 Skyborne pack.

Player Preferences and Beta Limitations

Despite the specific focus on the new Skyborne race, data shows they aren’t actually the most picked option. According to IGN, the Skyborne account for just 18.7% of characters across both factions. Players appear to be sticking to classics, with 32.3% of Alliance players opting for Humans and 33.5% of Horde players choosing the Undead.

While the population numbers are high, players should keep in mind that the current beta is restricted. The level cap is set at 30, and all character progress is slated for a total wipe before the official launch on November 4. Even with the knowledge that current efforts will vanish in a few weeks, the influx of players has reportedly left developers “shocked” by the engagement levels.

Why it matters

This level of activity suggests a strong launch for the game, even as it prepares to arrive shortly before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. For players, this high turnout indicates a healthy, active population when the servers officially go live next month. However, it also highlights an intense environment where Blizzard is currently maintaining strict oversight, including controversial crackdowns on player names and efforts to curb gold selling that have impacted some community streamers.

While the community continues to test these early sections of the game, developer responsiveness remains a talking point. For instance, the team has already integrated player-favorite content like the “Kyle’s Gone Missing” quest, signaling a willingness to incorporate classic elements that were not part of the base game’s initial release windows.
