Minecraft Bedrock Edition has received a substantial update with version 26.60, which officially launched on October 27, 2026. According to reporting from Game Rant, this update delivers over 600 bug fixes and introduces a variety of new experimental content ahead of its planned debut before the end of the year.

Experimental Cold-Weather Content

Central to the 26.60 update is the introduction of a new frozen-themed gameplay package available in experimental mode. This includes the Ice Cave biome, which generates beneath colder Overworld biomes and features elements such as Packed Ice, Calcite, Icicles, and light-emitting Ice Crystals. Players will also encounter the Frostbite, a new zombie variant capable of ranged attacks using Ice Balls and melee strikes that inflict the Freezing effect. This effect reduces jump height, causes the player to shake, and eventually deals damage. While Leather Armor does not prevent the application of the Freezing effect, it does negate its negative impacts.

Technical Fixes and Gameplay Changes

Beyond new content, the update addresses hundreds of bugs, including 89 community-reported issues. Key improvements include a fix for a bug where Bundle contents would disappear when placed in Double Chests and a resolution to the issue where sneaking would incorrectly disable when touching water. Mojang has also updated Shulker behavior to match the Java Edition, meaning they are now pushed by Pistons. Trapdoor placement has also been refined, allowing for snappable placement to maintain consistent orientation.

New Hardware and Performance

October 27 also marked the release of the native Nintendo Switch 2 version of Minecraft. This port includes specific performance improvements for split-screen multiplayer and utilizes the “Vibrant Visuals” graphical refresh. Digital owners of the original Nintendo Switch version are eligible for a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version through January 2027 in most regions. Additionally, all Bedrock Edition players will benefit from increased speed and reliability for Realms uploads and downloads, along with a redesigned member screen that no longer requires users to add others as friends before inviting them to sessions.

Why it matters

For players, this update represents a major quality-of-life push. The extensive list of over 600 fixes aims to stabilize long-standing technical pain points, such as unresponsive Villagers and item-related stuttering. The move toward parity with Java Edition mechanics, such as Shulker movement and Trapdoor placement, simplifies gameplay for those who move between platforms.

Players should note that the new frozen-themed features are currently experimental. If you are starting a new world to test these features, be aware that experimental settings can sometimes affect world stability. Those using the Nintendo Switch platform should check their eligibility for the free Switch 2 upgrade before the January 2027 cutoff.
