A fresh look at Grand Theft Auto 6 has arrived via a recent Game Informer cover story, bringing with it 12 new screenshots that highlight the depth of Rockstar Games’ ambition for the fictional state of Leonida. The images offer a closer look at the game’s mechanics, ranging from localized character traits to highly reactive environmental systems.

Expanded Character Detail and Customization

Rockstar is pushing player character fidelity further than previous titles. The screenshots confirm the return of varied body types, with a new system for localized weight gain affecting the chest, stomach, and legs. Additionally, skin features such as moles, freckles, and realistic tanning are present. The developers noted that even sunburns will be represented, with characters showing lighter skin around the eyes if wearing sunglasses. Beyond appearance, players can expect a wide array of clothing options, with studio heads emphasizing the use of realistic materials to reflect local Florida-inspired fashion trends.

Dynamic World and Gameplay Systems

Beyond character aesthetics, the environment itself appears to be highly simulation-focused. The screenshots demonstrate dynamic weather systems where rain leaves realistic puddles, and massive cloudscapes allow for localized tropical storms. In one instance, a plane flying over a citrus farm creates a dust cloud that causes NPCs to physically react and cough, suggesting a high level of object interaction.

Activity enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to as well. The coverage confirms a variety of side activities including mini-golf, scuba diving, trips to the zoo, and billiards. Hunting is also getting a significant upgrade, drawing inspiration from Red Dead Redemption 2 but modernized for the game’s setting. Animals are categorized into rare, discoverable, and legendary types, with 170 species confirmed, including 60 birds and 30 land mammals.

Why it matters

For players, these details confirm that Rockstar is prioritizing world-building as much as traditional gameplay loops. The focus on “cultural correctness” in tattoos and region-specific fashion suggests a deep commitment to the atmosphere of Leonida. The integration of advanced systems—like NPC reactions to environmental changes and detailed animal behavior—signals that the world of GTA 6 is intended to feel more alive and responsive than any previous entry in the series.

These screenshots also shed light on how players will engage with the world, from the return of photography tools like Snapmatic to a sophisticated weapon modification system that rivals modern first-person shooters. Whether you are hunting wildlife in the Grassrivers region or avoiding the ‘Final Chapter’ biker gang in the Ambrosia region, the game appears to be layering complex, interconnected systems beneath the familiar chaos of a Grand Theft Auto experience.
