Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword arrives Friday, Sept. 4, with release times varying by platform and region. Windows PC launches at 12 a.m. EDT, while console versions on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 go live at midnight local time for most territories, though some regions like Brazil and Mexico have staggered Nintendo Switch 2 windows.

When it drops where you are

For PC, Sept. 4 at 12 a.m. EDT breaks down as 9 p.m. PDT on Sept. 3 for the U.S. west coast, 1 a.m. BRT for Brazil, 5 a.m. BST for the U.K., 6 a.m. CEST for western Europe, 1 p.m. JST for Japan, and 2 p.m. AEST for Australia’s east coast.

Console players in most regions get midnight local time on Sept. 4. North America follows the same split: 9 p.m. PDT on Sept. 3 (west) and 12 a.m. EDT on Sept. 4 (east). Brazil’s PS5 and Xbox Series X launch at 12 a.m. BRT, but Nintendo Switch 2 goes live at 1 a.m. BRT. The U.K., western Europe, Japan, and Australia’s east coast all see 12 a.m. local time launches across all three console platforms.

You can already preload the PC version ahead of launch.

What you’re getting with pre-orders

Capcom’s tiered pre-order bonus structure rewards early commitment across three editions. The standard edition includes a Lion Dog charm and Sealed Curse sword appearance. The deluxe edition adds a White Monkey charm and White Lion sword appearance to those base items, plus exclusive gear like the Little Dancer and Mentor charms, Bamboo & Panda sword appearance, Whittled Oar and Raizan sword appearances, Enryuu sword appearance, Musashi’s Red Armor outfit, and a Crimson Lotus oni gauntlet.

The premium deluxe edition stacks everything from deluxe on top of additional cosmetics: Hellfire, Moonlight, and Cloudbiter haori variants, five distinct Okuni outfits (Flower Dance, Goldfish Dance, Oni Dance), and five Onu Lady outfits spanning Bird Call, Snow Camellia, and Elegance themes. This tier also includes an in-game mini digital soundtrack.

Why this matters

Onimusha: Way of the Sword marks the series’ return to modern platforms after the PS2 era, introducing series protagonist Miyamoto Musashi to contemporary audiences. The game positions itself as a challenging action experience built around intense boss duels that demand stamina management and precise timing. For players accustomed to the original trilogy or newer to the franchise, coordinating a global launch across PC and three console ecosystems demonstrates Capcom’s effort to bring the demon-hunting samurai action to as many players simultaneously as possible.

The staggered regional times—especially Nintendo Switch 2’s different windows in Mexico and Brazil—reflect localization complexity modern multiplatform releases navigate. For collectors, the pre-order tiers create genuine progression incentives beyond cosmetics, bundling digital soundtrack content into the premium tier.

What to watch

Players should lock in their platform and edition choice soon if pre-order cosmetics matter to them. Early reviews and player first impressions will likely surface immediately after the west coast launch on Sept. 3, giving eastern audiences and international regions a head start on what to expect from the difficulty and mechanics before their own access begins.
