Star Wars Zero Company, the debut tactics game from Bit Reactor, is now available on Xbox Series X|S as of August 27, 2026. The studio was founded by veteran developers from XCOM, XCOM 2, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns to expand on their proven work in the tactics genre within the Star Wars Clone Wars setting.

What You’re Getting Into

The game is built with new players in mind alongside series veterans. Four difficulty settings let you adjust the challenge at any point between missions, making it accessible whether you’re a tactics genre newcomer or a hardened XCOM veteran. The story-forward approach to the Star Wars IP is designed to bring in players unfamiliar with turn-based tactics games, though the underlying mechanical depth remains.

Key mechanics include a squad-based system where characters gain action points each turn—typically three, though various abilities and synergies let you generate additional actions. Advantage points function as a resource that caps at 10 and fuels powerful abilities. Utility items like grenades and health packs refresh at the start of each battle, even within multi-battle mission sequences. The game autosaves at the start of round one, though saving manually before important battles lets you retry without losing progress to earlier administrative steps.

Playing Smart: The Fundamentals

Prepping your squad before missions matters more than you might think. Check weapon mods, utility items, and any unspent focus points. Early on, you’ll shuffle your best gear between different operators depending on your fielded team composition. Don’t hoard limited-use items—they refresh anyway, so actually deploy them every mission.

During battles, interleave individual character actions rather than committing all of one character’s points before considering others. Hover over movement spots to preview updated hit percentages against enemies. Factor in threat priority, which enemies you can eliminate outright, and how to maximize value across your entire squad’s turns.

Action economy dominates the tactical layer. Beyond the baseline three actions per turn, abilities grant extra actions to teammates, some character abilities refund spent actions, and assist calls provide free bonus actions. The most satisfying turns chain these systems together so characters exceed their point limits.

Advantage points feel precious but shouldn’t be hoarded. They cap at 10, so spending them frequently to gain map control and eliminate threats before they escalate often prevents the desperate scrambles that make you regret saving them.

Environment is your weapon. Many maps feature bottomless voids and catwalks. Abilities that push enemies—concussion grenades, Force pushes, or specific character abilities—can eliminate problems in one stroke regardless of enemy health pools. Early-game enemies like rolling droidekas with large health pools and shields become trivial threats once shoved off an edge.

Finally, extraction missions differ from wipe-the-board objectives. Multiple threats spawn until your full squad reaches the extraction zone. Don’t get caught grinding the last enemy while reinforcements pour in—run to the exit the moment it’s possible. Mission success triggers the moment everyone reaches the zone.

What to Watch For

With a tactics veteran-led team building on XCOM’s foundation within Star Wars canon, player reception should clarify whether the franchise’s narrative weight brings fresh audiences to the genre. How the community tackles higher difficulties and optimizes action economy will likely drive post-launch discussion.
