As the beta for World of Warcraft: Forever continues to gain momentum, Blizzard Entertainment is leaving the door wide open regarding the future of the MMO’s map. While the project is currently centered on the game’s initial launch period, developers have suggested that iconic regions like Northrend and Pandaria could eventually make their way into the experience.

In a recent interview with content creator JackedIQ, as reported by GamesRadar+, Blizzard executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale confirmed that when it comes to potential new zones, “nothing is off the table.” Longdale emphasized that the team’s direction depends on narrative goals and player feedback, noting that even the original continents are subject to evolution. “You could spend a lifetime in the two continents as they evolve,” she added.

Expanding the Horizon

Associate production director Clay Stone supported these sentiments, reminding players that “Azeroth is a big place.” Stone highlighted that the team is currently focused on the unique creative opportunities available within the game’s inaugural year. Despite this tight focus, he indicated that the development team has already brainstormed several ways to play within that vast space, fueling speculation about how much of Azeroth might eventually be accessible.

Blizzard appears encouraged by the current reception of the beta, which senior game designer Josh Greenfield recently described as seeing some of the highest engagement numbers he has witnessed during his 17-year tenure at the studio. While the team remains committed to telling the “best story” for now, the potential for future expansion seems limited only by the developers’ creative ambition and the community’s response.

Why it matters

For players, this news signals that World of Warcraft: Forever may evolve far beyond a static recreation of the original 2004 experience. By keeping future content options open, Blizzard is positioning the title as a living service that could eventually incorporate later expansions in new, creative ways.

If you are currently participating in the beta, this suggests that your feedback could play a direct role in shaping which parts of Azeroth the team prioritizes for future updates. Players should keep a close watch on official announcements regarding narrative shifts and zone expansions, as the current “first year” limitation may be more flexible than many fans initially assumed.
