Capcom has officially unveiled gameplay for Mega Man: Dual Override, a new platformer entry in the iconic Mega Man series, revealing that players will control both Mega Man and Proto Man alongside a newly introduced character called Twinkle Girl. The gameplay reveal happened during Gamescom Opening Night Live, giving fans their first real look at the sequel since its announcement at The Game Awards 2025.
What Capcom Showed
The gameplay footage showcased Mega Man and Proto Man navigating through expansive stages while facing off against Robot Masters, including the newly revealed Twinkle Girl, who appears as both a unique character design and an in-game boss. The demo highlighted two key systems: the Override mechanic, which grants players a temporary power boost, and Custom Chips that allow players to modify and enhance their character abilities.
Capcom’s official description frames the story around a robot exhibition where machines have gone rogue in Dr. Light’s absence, tasking Mega Man and Proto Man with restoring peace to the city. The Override system lets players “unleash overwhelming power for a limited time,” serving as the game’s marquee new mechanic alongside the customizable chip loadout system.
Beyond Mega Man: Dual Override itself, Capcom revealed a crossover coming to Pragmata this year: two Mega Man-themed outfits will arrive, with character Hugh dressing as Mega Man and Diana as Roll.
Why This Matters
Mega Man has been a cornerstone of Capcom’s platformer legacy for decades, and bringing Proto Man into the playable roster marks a significant shift for the series—traditionally, the Blue Bomber handled solo adventures or team-ups with other characters in spin-offs. Having him share equal billing with a playable co-lead suggests a deliberate design direction toward cooperative or dual-character gameplay, which could reshape how players approach level design and boss encounters.
Twinkle Girl’s introduction as a new Robot Master continues Capcom’s tradition of expanding the franchise’s cast, though her prominence here—appearing prominently in both marketing and as a major boss—hints she may become a recurring character rather than a one-off antagonist. The Override and Custom Chip systems represent the studio’s attempt to add depth and player agency to the classic Mega Man formula, letting players experiment with how they tackle challenges rather than relying solely on learned patterns and reflexes.
The Pragmata crossover also signals Capcom’s confidence in both franchises and their ability to drive interest across different audiences heading into 2027.
What’s Next
With a 2027 release window and platforms still to be announced, players will likely get more details on Mega Man: Dual Override as development progresses. The Pragmata outfits arriving later this year will give fans a taste of the crossover momentum Capcom is building around the Blue Bomber’s return.
